Some Fundamental Poker Strategies For Newcomers

As most experience players will attest, knowing a winning (or losing) hand can mean the difference between a big payday from online casinos such as Gaming Club and going bust. Nobody is forced to enter a pot. This is a voluntary activity and is often a test of wills. So it is often a test for beginners as they are learning the game when to recognize what a good hand actually looks like.
Texas holdem
This is more of an experience issue than anything, but a few tips are in order. Every game is different, and the most popular right now — Texas Holdem should be played conservatively. The flow of the game will determine when to go for it, but the chances of busting increase with aggressive play. That doesn’t mean a few chances shouldn’t be taken. Other players will know when a good hand is evident because a rookie only bets with high face cards in his hand.

It is very important to play with some level of comfort. Poker is a game of skill and bluffing is only a part of it. It is impossible to win every hand. But some of the newcomers think they can do it. The best bet is to know when to bluff in order to win bigger pots. However, this should only be attempted when more experienced is gained. This means playing conservatively until the game is better understood.

It’s the fundamentals of the game that need to be learned in order to be successful.

This can be accomplished only by sitting down with more experienced players. Losing a small amount is a valuable lesson — especially when another skill is being learned. That is the ability to read the other players faces. With starting stronger hands, there are easier decisions to be made when the flop comes. This is less nerve wracking on the player. A good example is when a raised is called before the flop when holding an Ace - Nine combination. The inexperienced player is betting a large sum on the flop coming his way. However, the more experienced player will throw this in because the odds aren’t in his favor.

The newcomer to poker should start to recognize a good starting hand.

These involve Aces and all face cards. Ace - King and Ace - Queen should also be played unless multiple players raise the pot. For any of the pocket numbers (8, 9 or 10), these should be avoided if possible and only played if the pot has been raised only once. It is better to fold and save money for a strong hand than try to bluff from position of weakness. All experienced players started out as newcomers and enjoyed their learning experience as much as possible.
